Since the award of the first statewide
grant in March 2002, Maui RDP manages and supports innovative educational workforce
development programs that enrich the socio-economic rural communities in
the tri-isle region of Maui, Lana'i and Moloka'i:
SOLAR PHOTO-VOLTAIC SYSTEM INSTALLER TRAINING
(2008)
View webpage This project is the
first in a series of planned college-based initiatives that will support
the "green collar" workforce needed as Maui progresses to energy
self-sufficiency and sustainable island communities (D Regan). The Solar
Photo Voltaic Installer Training program will be supported with solar
material and supplies including stipends.
TRANSITIONAL MANAGEMENT TRAINING (2008)
This workforce
development project targeted the management trainee learning new
techniques in their interpersonal skills for greater effectiveness with
managing people at work utilizing the DISC assessment with application
towards effective communication with various work styles including
coaching.
RADIOLOGIC
CLINICAL INSTRUCTION AT MCC
(2007)
RDP supported the
Clinical Instruction portion for this two year Associate Degree Program
for Radiologic Technologist now offered at MCC. This curriculum combines
theoretical studies and clinical practice for the student on x-ray
equipment safety and examination processes.
AUTOMOTIVE TECHNICIAN TRAINING (2007)

equipment and supplies were purchased to meet national accreditation
requirements, and prepare students for entry level work. This program
enhances and enriches the educational training process by providing
specialty training aides and state-of-the-art industry standard
automotive equipment to the student.
LAHAINA EDUCATION CENTER (2007)

higher education learning center provides HITS, WebCT, and cable courses in-house
including continuing educational classes (VITEC) through newly acquired
audio visual and computerized equipment. Integrated high technology
equipment is available in every classroom including a conference room
for those special meetings held by local area businesses and
organizations.

Technician curriculum that educated and trained participants in solar
hot water maintenance supported through RDP funding in acquiring
materials and supplies needed to start the program.
LEADERSHIP EFFECTIVENESS AND DEVELOPMENT (LEAD) FOR FIRST-TIME
SUPERVISORS (2006)
RDP provided support to first-time supervisors in receiving training and
coaching techniques utilizing the DISC profile system in developing
insight and intervention skills as they transition into their new
management role.
NURSING SIMULATORS
(2006)
With the development of technology in patient simulators
used in the education and training of healthcare professionals in
developing their basic and advanced clinical skills, RDP assisted in
acquiring manikin simulators for the Nursing Department.
APPLIED BUSINESS & INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY (ABIT) SUPPORT
(2006)
This Baccalaureate Degree program (the first 4 yr degree program at MCC) was supported through
RDP funding
for personnel, equipment, material and supplies.
ELDER HEALTH CARE (2002)
This
project targeted Maui residents who could not meet the English
requirements of a similar course. The program delivered eight
offerings of this course from Fall 2002 through Spring 2004. All
clinical aspects of these courses were taught through the Maui Community
College's accredited Nurse Training Program. An innovative part of this
training was the development of student health clinical training
internships in home settings, rather than a facility setting which
presented challenges the trainees could encounter in real-life
employment situations.
SMALL
BUSINESS RESOURCE CENTER (2002) The Maui
County Business Resource Center (MCBRC) was established as a
collaborative project between various non-profit service providers, the
County of Maui, and other governmental agencies that are focused on
providing assistance to businesses and entrepreneurs. The center is a
geographically centralized facility which opened on March 10, 2004 in
the Maui Mall Shopping Center located in Kahului. RDP's funding role
assisted with materials, supplies, and personnel needed to make the
MCBRC a viable provider of training, counseling, and other support to
entrepreneurs throughout Maui County. A variety of courses and
workshops were delivered on-site, teaching entrepreneurs how to write
business plans and how to effectively and efficiently run small
businesses.
