Solar Water Heating Technician Training

Improving Performance & Efficiency

Through Innovative Education, Testing & Monitoring

The Hawai'i Energy Test Laboratory (HETL) required an on-site  solar water heating system consisting of three 80 gallon water heaters and instruments to measure current rates, flow rates, usage controller, and temperature levels including solar insulation that would be used to educate and train participants on how to increase the performance and efficiency of solar water heating systems through innovative education and techniques in testing and monitoring equipment.

Funding for the solar water heating system technician training material and supplies totaling over $13,500 was provided 100% through federal grants from the U.S. Department of Labor, and administered by the Maui RDP region personnel.

Special thank you to State of Hawai’i Senator Daniel Inouye, who was instrumental in establishing the Hawai’i Rural Development Project on Lana’i in 1997 for the purpose of developing the rural workforce and economy in Hawai’i, and now, has grown to include all major islands.
