Maui Rural Development Project

Solar Photo Voltaic System

Installer Training

$1,000 Stipend Awarded to Twelve Solar PV Installer Recipients

Maui Community College and Rural Development Project encourages and supports energy self-sufficient and sustainable living communities throughout Hawai’i. This “green-collar” workforce development project focused on both the theoretical and practical application of solar photo-voltaic systems and awarded a $1,000 stipend to twelve recipients who completed the training program.

Solar photo-voltaic panels and inverters including materials and supplies were purchased for this project. Solar installer analysis tools, such as, the Solmetric SunEye GPS and Solar Pathfinder were purchased to coordinate solar panel placement and direction.

Funding for the solar photo voltaic material and supplies including stipends totaling over $131,000 was provided 100% through federal grants from the U.S. Department of Labor, and administered by the Maui RDP region personnel.

Special thank you to State of Hawai’i Senator Daniel Inouye, who was instrumental in establishing the Hawai’i Rural Development Project on Lana’i in 1997 for the purpose of developing the rural workforce and economy in Hawai’i, and now, has grown to include all major islands.
